Friend over Family

Why is that now a days family often appears as only a mere concept? Why is that friends have become more reliable than family?

I'm saying this not because I have any ill feelings toward my own family, but because I am amazed that one is able to go out into this world and find someone who loves and cares about you as much as, or even, more than your own family would. Lately it seems that the bond two close friends create is unbreakable as opposed to the many fall outs you may have with your own family, but maybe it's because you don't get to choose your family and are often told that because they are family you have to deal with them regardless of what they do to you. Now I'm sure some you reading this may begin to pick up on the animosity I have towards my own , but I assure that is only because that the family I do have left is pain is the ass. But don't we all have that one person in our family. That one person you cant  stand but you that if they were in a pinch you would have their back. Maybe yes. Maybe no. All I can say is that I do indeed have friends I consider closer than family and some family that can never be replaced by friends, but what do you think?
